Send submissions to submitsunhouse@gmail.com. Format the subject line like this: GENRE - titles of your pieces, (e.g., FLASH - Snowfall in January | Springwater). Send your submission as a single .docx or .pdf attachment, though we will accept other formats if the nature of your piece demands it (e.g, .jpg for visual poetry.) Please include a cover letter and bio in your email, as well as a CW if applicable.

We accept poetry, flash prose, and hybrid submissions. We also take previously published and unpublished pieces. Simultaneous submissions are welcome, but please let us know in the same email chain should your work be accepted elsewhere.

As a POC and LGBTQ+ led magazine, we strongly encourage and appreciate submissions from the above groups. We understand many marginalized writers feel pressured to fit into a box of creating work directly related to their identity but hope to challenge this narrative. Feel free to submit your individualistic, experimental writing that doesn't adhere to the aesthetic expectations of traditional institutions.

We love pieces that blur genre and use symbols, emoticons, white space, etc. creatively; poems with whole paragraphs of dialogue, writing that rides the line between prose poem and micro, liberal use of footnotes, pieces with theatrical elements, mixed media, and more. Writing like this, this and this

At the moment we are unfortunately unable to pay writers, but please know that we are actively working to change this and becoming a paying publication is one of our top priorities.

Specific Genre Guidelines

Poetry
1-5 poems, up to 10 pages max
We love all kinds of poetry, but we’d especially like to see prose poems, poems with a strong sense of rhythm, and endings that will make us lose our minds.
Examples of poems we really love can be found here, here, here, and here.

Flash Prose
We accept both flash fiction and nonfiction, as well as some combination of the two. We also love micros—don’t be afraid to send us some really short pieces.
For flash prose (pieces under 1000 words,) feel free to submit up to 2 at a time. For micros (pieces under 400 words,) submit up to 3.
Examples of flash prose we really love can be found here and here.

Hybrid

For everything that doesn’t fit into a box. Submit any number of pieces, so long as they are under 2000 words combined. We want your musings. If in doubt, send it in the hybrid category.

We look forward to reading your work. ✺
